Every fall, Magic Kingdom transforms into something truly special for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party โ€” and every fall, families ask me the same question: is it really worth spending extra money on top of everything else? After attending multiple parties and helping countless families decide, here's my honest take.

What Is Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party?

MNSSHP is a separately ticketed after-hours event held at Magic Kingdom on select nights from mid-August through Halloween night. Tickets typically range from around $109 to $199 per person depending on the date, with Halloween night being the most expensive and most popular. The event runs from 7pm to midnight, but ticket holders can enter the park as early as 4pm โ€” giving you effectively 8 hours of access.

Regular daytime park guests must exit by 6pm, so by the time the party officially begins, the crowd level drops dramatically. This is one of the biggest hidden benefits of the party that people don't always realize going in.

What's Actually Included

The Crowd Level Advantage Is Real

This is the thing that surprises people most. Because attendance at the party is capped and because many guests are focused on trick-or-treating, the parades, and the shows โ€” the ride wait times at MNSSHP can be shockingly short. I've ridden Seven Dwarfs Mine Train with a 10-minute wait during the party. That's practically unheard of during a normal day.

โœฆ Pro Tip: Arrive at 4pm when party ticket holders are first admitted. You'll get two to three hours of lower crowd levels before the main party crowd arrives โ€” essentially a bonus park visit on top of the event itself.

Costumes Are Encouraged (and Amazing)

One of the most magical things about MNSSHP is that guests of ALL ages are encouraged to wear costumes โ€” and most people do. Walking through a Magic Kingdom filled with guests dressed as Disney characters, villains, and beloved movie characters is an experience unlike any other day in the park. Kids absolutely love it. Adults love it too, honestly.

Disney does have costume guidelines โ€” costumes can't be so elaborate that they trail on the ground or obscure your face, and adult guests can't dress as specific Disney characters (to avoid guest confusion). But within those guidelines, there's so much creativity on display.

My Honest Verdict

If you're visiting in the fall and have kids who love Halloween, characters, or just Disney magic in general โ€” yes, MNSSHP is absolutely worth it. The exclusive entertainment, the costume atmosphere, the lower crowds, and the trick-or-treating combine into something genuinely special that you can't replicate on a regular park day. For families without young kids or those on a tighter budget, it's a harder sell โ€” but the Hocus Pocus show alone might still be worth the price of admission.

How to Get Tickets

Tickets go on sale months in advance and popular dates โ€” especially weekends and Halloween night โ€” sell out quickly. I help all of my fall-trip clients snag their MNSSHP tickets as part of the planning process, so if you're considering a fall trip, mention it when you request your quote and I'll make sure we get it on the calendar!
